Objective:To observe the effects of fermented camel milk(shubat)containing ten lactic acid bacteria and four yeasts on diabetic rats and to study the preliminary mechanism. Methods:Diabetic rats were induced by an administration high-glucose-fat diet for 8weeks and an intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin(STZ,30 mg·kg-1).Diabetic rats were divided into four groups and treated for 4 weeks with sitagliptin(30 mg·kg-1)or shubat(6.97×106 lactic acid bacteria+2.20×104 yeasts)CFU/mL/kg,(6.97×107 lactic acid bacteria+2.20×105 yeasts)CFU/mL/kg and(6.97×108 lactic acid bacteria+2.20×106 yeasts)CFU/mL/kg.In addition,a normal control group and a diabetic control group were used for comparison.1.Fasting blood glucose(FBG)and body weight(BW)were measured before treatment and every week thereafter.Glucose(Glu),glucagon-like peptide-1(GLP-1),glycated hemoglobin(HbAlc),C-peptide(CP),Total cholesterol(TC),triglycerides(TG),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-c),high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-c),Serum creatinine(SCr),blood urea nitrogen(BUN),alanine transaminase(ALT),aspartate transaminase(AST)and pancreas tissue sections were tested after 4 weeks. Results:High dose fermented camel milk decreased FBG and HbAlc,increased C-peptide(P<0.05)and GLP-1(P<0.01)levels,decreased serum TC,TG and LDL-c(P<0.05),increased HDL-c(P<0.01)levels,improved the reduction of body weight(P<0.01)and the liver and kidney function compared to diabetic controls.Histological analysis showed fermented camel milk protected the function of islets of diabetic rats. Conclusion:The results of this study indicates that fermented camel milk decreased FBG and HbAlc,increased C-peptide and GLP-1,modulated lipid metabolism and protected liver and kidney injury in type 2 diabetic rats, which may be related to various probiotics acting through promoting the release of GLP-1 and protecting the function of islets.
