The dissertation is reported on the chemical constituents and bioactivity investigations of Schisandra propinqua?Wall.?Baill.var.propinqua.S.propinqua?Wall.?Baill.var.propinqua,which is the mutant species of S.propinqua?Wall.?Baill.,is a climbing woody liana belonging to the genera Schisandra, and is mainly distributed in southwest of China. The roots, stems of the species can be used as an important traditional China herbal medicine to treat rheumatism and punch injury.Previous phytochemical research on this species had resulted in the isolation of a series of new compounds with diverse skeletons and intriguing bioactivities. In order to search for bioactive compounds with novel structures, further study was undertaken on the stems and leaves of S.propinqua var.propinqua collected from Lijiang City,Yunnan Province,People's Republic of China.By means of chromatography technique, spectroscopic evidences,Mo2?OAc?4-induced ECD method and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis,89 compounds, including 59 triterpenoids?23 new ones,involving14 carbon frameworks?,29 lignans?12 new ones?,and 1 flavanone, were isolated from the 70%aqueous acetone extracts of its stems and leaves. Some of them were evaluated for their in vitro cytotoxicity against five human tumor cell lines?HL-60,A-549,SMMC-7721,MCF-7,SW480?,were also studied on their activity against platelet aggregation induced by ADP or COLL in rabbits in vitro, and were screened for immunosuppressive activity arising from the inhibition of human T cell proliferation in vitro. As a result, compound 39 exhibited general cytotoxicity against the A-549 and SMMC-7721,compounds 35,48,and 50 showed moderate bioactivity against platelet aggregation induced by COLL in rabbits, and eight compounds?30,34,44,48-50,52 and 62?exhibited weak immuosuppressive activity at nontox ic concentrations.
