Background: In recent years, along with people’s dietary structure and lifestyle changes continuously, the incidence of metabolic syndrome showed a trend of rising in the worldwide year by year, and it has seriously affected the human health.Studies have shown that people with the metabolic syndrome increases the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease,as well as a variety of cardiovascular disease and a variety of reasons lead to increased mortality. With a variety of chronic diseases associated with an increased risk of disease,so the prevention of the metabolic syndrome has important public health significance.Water is an important constituent of cells, tissues and organs in human body.Drinking water in the morning can effectively increase the amount of blood soluble and reduce the blood viscosity.Studies have found that plasma and total blood viscosity are associated with increased risk of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and increased mortality. Therefore, morning drinking may play an important role in the development of metabolic syndrome. However, there is no relevant study on the correlation between drinking water in the early morning and metabolic syndrome in the adult population. Objective: In this study,we investigates the association between the different quantity of water drinking in the morning with the risk of metabolic syndrome and its components,so as to explore whether there is a connection between water quantity and the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and drinking water in the morning whether have beneficial effect on metabolic syndrome. Methods: This study is based on the Tianjin Chronic Low-grade Systemic Inflammation and Health(TCLSIHealth)Cohort Study. We collected the data of subjects who made medical health checkups in the Health Management Center of Tianjin Medical University General Hospital physical examination in 2016 and 2017.According to some certain inclusion and exclusion criteria,4304 people were included in this study finally.Metabolic syndrome diagnostic criteria used in this study is the Chinese type 2 diabetes prevention guide published by diagnostic criteria, there are three or more of the following standards of the participants were defined as patients with metabolic syndrome: central obesity, high blood pressure, elevated blood glucose, high blood triglycerides, low HDL cholesterol. The other variables are as follows: questionnaire survey variables(personal basic social information, smoking, drinking, occupation, family monthly income, education, family history of disease, the daily water drinking, breakfast intaks, daily diet),physical examination, variable(height, waist circumference, weight, blood pressure)and blood biochemical examination variables. The data of water quantity drinking in the morning collected by questionnaire, includes whether in the morning drink water and the quantity of water, data are divided into 0,0~1 cup,1~2 cups,2 cups or more.In this study, statistical analysis was performed using SAS 9.3 statistical software, and the correlation between drinking water consumption in the morning and the risk of metabolic syndrome and its components was multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results: The overall prevalence of metabolic syndrome was 22.8% in this study, the prevalence of male population was significantly higher than that of women. After many adjusted for many potential confounding factors,in the final model,in the total population, with the increase of water quantity drinking in the morning, the OR values of metabolic syndrome were 1.00,1.00,0.69,1.39),0.90(0.73,0.73)and 0.73(0.38,0.38)(P = 0.04).In female, with the increase of water drinking in the morning, the OR of increased blood pressure was 1.00,1.01(0.63,1.60),0.70(0.53,0.93)and 0.93(0.45,1.86)(P = 0.02).For other groups, the tendency was not shown. In the male population, were showed no inclination tendency. Conclusion: In male, compared with those who did not drinking water in the morning, the decrease in prevalence was obvious in Metabolic Syndrome and HDL-C,but there was no significant trend.Increased waist circumference, elevated triglycerides, elevated blood glucose and blood pressure were not significantly different. In female, the water quantity drinking in the morning is negatively correlated with the metabolic syndrome and the prevalence of hypertension, but there is no obvious difference between, elevated triglycerides, elevated blood pressure and blood glucose with different water quantity, drinking in the morning.
