Objectives: To analyze the curative effect of different courses of benzathine penicillin G(BPG)treating late latent syphilis and observe whether the clinical serological efficacy can be improved by prolonging treatment course. Methods: To collect the clinical data of patients with late latent syphilis who were treated in the Department of Dermatology,Affiliated Hospital of NorthSichuan Medical College from August 2017 to July 2018.Patients matched the eligibility criteria were randomly divided into 3 groups to respectively receive 3-course,5-course and 7-course BPG therapy(2.4 million units intramuscular each, separated by 1 week). The 3-course BPG was reference(control group),which respectively compared with the 5-course BPG and the 7-course BPG.Their comparison of basic data(gender, age, and the basic TRUST titers prior to therapy)among patients in the three groups showed no statistical difference. All patients were required to have toluidine red unheated serum test(TRUST)at erollment,3-and 6-month visits after treatment. The serological response to following treatment in three groups was observed and the serological efficacy evaluated at the 3-and 6-month visit. Results: 1.A total of 102 patients was involved, including 44(43.1%)males and 58(56.9%)females,with a sex ratio of 0.76: 1;the average age was 39.14±17.20(18-87 years old). The initial TRUST titer of 56 cases were less than or equal to 1:4(initially be 1:4),45 cases varied among 1:8-1:16,and only one case was 1:32.2.Three months after treatment,in 3-course BPG group,15 cases were effective,16 cases ineffective, with 48.38% of efficacy rate;in 5-course BPG group,14 cases were effective,22 cases ineffective, with 38.88% of efficacy rate;in 7-course BPG group,20 cases were effective,15 cases ineffective, with 57.14% of efficacy rate. There was no statistic difference between 3-course BPG and 5-course BPG(P>0.05)and between 3-course BPG and 7-course BPG(P>0.05).3.Six months after treatment,in 3-course BPG group,18 cases were effective,13 cases ineffective, with 58.06% of efficacy rate;in 5-course BPG group,16 cases were effective,20 cases ineffective, with 44.44% of efficacy rate;in 7-course BPG group,21 cases were effective,14 cases ineffective, with 60.00% of efficacy rate. There was no statistic difference between 3-course BPG and 5-course BPG(P>0.05)and between 3-course BPG and 7-course BPG(P>0.05).Conclusion: 1.Clinically,within a half-year observation, prolonging the course of the treatment of late latent syphilis cannot improve the serological efficacy.2.The curative effect of benzathine penicillin in the treatment of late latent syphilis is correlated with basic TRUST titers, and higher titers can secure better serological efficacy.
