ObjectiveTo evaluate the efficacy and safety of holmium laser enucleation for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia with acute urinary retention.MethodsA retrospective analysis of 128 patients with BPH who underwent HoLEP treatment from February 2016 to February 2018 in our hospital,40patients(31.25%)with AUR were classified as AUR group, and 88 patients without AUR(68.75%)is classified as non-AUR group.According to the number of urinary retention,AUR group was divided into two subgroups:A(?1 time,n=25),B(>1 time,n=15).The differences in basic information, perioperative data, and postoperative follow-up indicators between AUR,non-AUR,A and B groups were compared.ResultsIn the AUR group, the urinary white blood cell positive rate, urine culture positive rate,PSA,IPSS and operation time were significantly higher than those in the non-AUR group(P<0.05),and hemoglobin waslower than that in the non-AUR group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in hemoglobin change, indwelling time of catheter, length of hospital stay, and perioperative complication rate between the two groups(P>0.05).Post-voiding residual(PVR),International Prostatic Symptom Score(IPSS)and quality of life score(QoL)in both groups were significantly lower and the maximum urinary flow rate(Qmax)was higher than that before operation(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in perioperative data and 6 months follow-up of IPSS,QoL,PVR and Qmax between groups A and B(P>0.05).ConclusionHoLEP is safe and effective in the treatment of BPH with AUR.The number of patients with urinary retention has no effect on the outcome of the operation.
