sST2 is an emerging marker in the field of heart failure and has been extensively studied and included in the 2013 ACCF/AHA risk stratification guidelines for patients with acute and chronic heart failure. The IL-33/ST2 signaling pathway has been proved to be cardioprotective by reducing myocardial fibrosis.sST2 competitively inhibits the IL-33/ST2 signaling pathway, weakening the role of protecting the heart.Because sST2 is involved in many inflammatory and cardiac diseases,sST2 lacks specificity in the diagnosis of heart failure. But it is closely related to the adverse outcomes of acute and chronic heart failure. The cut-off value of sST2 in predicting the prognosis of acute and chronic heart failure was 35 ng/ml.When combined with other biomarkers and continuous monitoring of sST2 concentration, the prognosis of patients with heart failure can be better predicted.Compared with BNP,sST2 has low biological variability and is not affected by age, gender, renal function, atrial fibrillation.Therefore,sST2 is a promising prognostic biomarker for heart failure, which can be used to stratify risk in patients with heart failure, assess prognosis, and better manage patients.
