Clerdodendranthus spicatus(Thunb.)C.Y.Wu(Lamiaceae)is a species of the genus of Clerdodendranthusy Its roots,stems,leaves and flowers are extensively used as traditional medicine for diseases>such as edema,urinary tract infection,nephropathy,hypertension,diabetes and tonsillitis.The advantages of the traditional medicine were low toxicity,little side effect and diuretic lithagogue..In an effort to search for bioactive compounds,chemical constituents and bioactivities of twigs and leaves of C.spicatus were studied.Fifth compounds were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of C.spicatus by many kinds of chromatographic separation technologies,and their structures were identified as 5-hydroxy-7,3',4'-trimethoxyflavone(1),5,6,7,4'-tetramethoxyflavone(2),ursolic acid(3),6,7,8,3',4'-pentamethoxyflavone(4),bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate(5),caffeic acid methyl ester(6),5,3'-trihydroxy-7,4'-dimethoxyflavone(7),6,7,8,4'-tetramethoxy flavone(8),N-trans-feruloyltyramine(9),Sinesetin(10),Protocatechuic aldehyde(11),Methyl rosmarinate(12),3,3',5-Trihydroxy-7,4'-dimethoxyflavanone(13),3'-Hydroxy-5,7,8,4,-tetramethoxyflavone(14),3',4',5,7-tetramethoxyflavone(15).Compound 5 was obtained from C.spicatus for the first time.The antibacterial activity of compounds 1-15 was evaluated using the 96 well-plate assay.Compounds 1?2?3?4?5?6?7?8?11?13?14?15 showed activities towards MSSA in different degrees.Compounds 1?2?3?4?13?14?15 possessed inhibitory effect on MRS A in different level.Compounds 1-15 exhibited no activities to E.coli.The experiment implemented 96-well plates to determine the antimicrobial activity of the extractant of Ethyl Acetate Extracted from Clerdodendranthus spicatus by taking the extractant to test with each type of bacterial strain(19 in total).The result shows the extractant of Ethyl Acetate has effect of 100%inhibitory activity to S.aureus ATCC 29213,A.baumannii(BAA1605+Col 0.1 ?mol/L),A.baumannii(BAA1605),A.baumannii(BAA1605+Rif 0.1 ?mol/L,P.aeruginosa 27853 and P.aeruginosa(27853+Sceptrin 12.5?mol/L).
