Objective:To investigate the effect of acupuncture at the left Chongyang acupoint with the temperature of bilateral Chongyang acupoints and left Taibai acupoint,we observed the temperature changes on these acupoints after acupuncture at the left Chongyang of healthy volunteer.Methods:30 healthy young subjects were included(15 males and 15females).The subjects kept seated,exposing their feet and lower limbs with marks of medical infusion stickers(0.5 cm×0.5 cm)on bilateral Chongyang and Taibai.A digital medical infrared thermal imager(WN ?0805 universal type)was used to detect the temperature of the acupoints of Chongyang and Taibai on both sides every 5 minutes in the resting state of 40 minutes before the needle.After 40 minutes of stable skin temperature,we acupunctured at the left Chongyang 0.5 inch deep.Retent the needle for 10 mins then twirl the needle peacefully and evenly 6 times per second with the even reinforcing-reducing method.Withdraw the needle immediately after 20 mins.Then the subjects maintained sitting position for 30 mins.We then used infrared thermal imager to detect the temperature of bilateral Chongyang and left Taibai at the moment of 5 minutes,10 minutes(before twirling),15 mins and 10 mins(before withdrawing)of needle retention,when needle twirling finished,and the moment of needle withdrawing,5 mins,10 mis,15mins,20 mins,25 mins and 30 mins after withdrawing.Acupoint temperature data were collected and SPSS17.0 statistical software was used for statistical analysis.RESULTS:1.From 40 mins to 20 mins before acupuncture at left Chongyang acpoint,the temperature of each acupoint showed a downward trend.The temperature of each acupoint reached a stable state around 20 min before acupunture.The temperature of Chongyang and Taibai on both sides varied during 40 minutes before acupuncture.But there was no significant difference.2.Significant variations on temperature of left Chongyang acupoint appeared with time when acupuncturing at the left Chongyang acpoint.Siginificant decrease happened at the moment of acupuncture(P<0.05).Extremely significant decrease happened at the moment of acupuncture for 5 mins,before and at the time of withdrawing(P<0.01).Extremely siginificant increase at the end of twirling needle,acupuncturing for 15 mins(P<0.05).Significant increase at 5 mins,10 mins and 15 mins after withdrawing(P<0.05).And also,the temperature of Chongyang point on the left side was significantly increase before twirling and at the end of needle twirling(P<0.05).After acupuncture at left Chongyang point,we observed a decrease of temperature on this acupoint at the moment of acupuncture.Then the temperature kept increasing from the 5th minute of acupuncture to the end of acupuncture.After increasing,we found the temperature begin to decrease until it finally got back to the temperature before acupuncture.3.Significant variations on temperature of right Chongyang acupoint appeared with time when acupuncturing at the left Chongyang acpoint.Extremely significant temperature increase happened at the end of needle twirling and acupuncture for 15 mins(P<0.01).Siginificant increase happened at the moment of withdrawing,5 mins,10 mins and 15 minutes after withdrawing(P<0.05).When acupuncturing at the left Chongyang acupoint,the temperature of right Chongyang acupoint kept increasing from the moment of acupuncture to the moment of needle withdrawing.And then the temperature remained a stable status during 15 mins after needle withdrawing.After all that,the temperature of right Chongyang acupoint began to increase until it finally got back to that before acupuncture.4.Significant variations on temperature of left Taibai acupoint appeared with time when acupuncturing at the left Chongyang acpoint.Siginificant decrease happened at the moment of needle twirling,15 mins of acupuncture,before and 5 mins after withdrawing and at the moment of withdrawing(P<0.05).Extremely significant temperature decrease happened at the moment of 10 mins and 15 mins after withdrawing(P<0.01).After acupuncturing at the left Chongyang,the temperature of left Taibai acupoint kept decreasing from the moment of acupuncture to 15 mins after acupuncture.The temperature at the same acupoint remained stable until 10 mins after withdrawing.Then the temperature went high,until it finally got back to that before acupuncture.Conclusion:1.After acupuncture at Chongyang point on the left side,the temperature of left Chongyang points and left Taibai point increased and right Chongyang point decreased.2.At needle retention and reinforcing-reducing twist phase,the temperature of bilateral Chongyang points increased and left Taibai point decreased.3.Acupuncture at the left Chongyang point can cause the temperature change of the right Chongyang point,which can provide theoretical basis for the theory of Giant Spurs.
