The Effect Of Ureaplasma Urealyticum Infection On Male Semen Parameters

Objective:The objective of the study was to determine the effect of Ureaplasma urealyticum(UU)infection on the semen parameters of the men who enrolled for assisted reproductive technology(ART)treatment.Methods:We retrospectively analyzed 427 men of couples enrolled in ART from March 2019-August 2019 and prospectively analyzed 99 men of couples enrolled in ART from 15~thh October 2019-31~stt January 2020,both done at the Center for Reproductive Center in Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University.All the patients'semen analysis results and urine UU RNA test results were collected.Then the patients were divided into two groups:UU positive and UU negative,and medians of the semen parameters were compared between the two groups.Results:Of the 427 patients in the retrospective study,197(46.14%)were UU-positive and 230 were UU-negative.For the prospective study,50(50.51%)out of99 patients were UU-positive and 49 were UU-negative.There was no statistically significant difference(P>0.05)between the two groups in the semen parameters including semen volume,semen pH,sperm concentration,total sperm count,forward motility,total motility,D-sperm and sperm morphology in both studies.Conclusion:The UU infection has a high prevalence in the men enrolling for ART.However,we cannot say that the infection affected the men's fertility as the infection did not have an effect on the male semen parameters.
