Public space that takes stations as the main body of underground rail transportation has become a part of daily life for urban population since China has entered into a stage where the construction of urban metro is under a rapid development.But with the expansion of different lines and the diversified needs of crew,needs like asking to increase the efficiency of metro transportation can not be met by the facilities solely especially during rush hours.Intangible infrastructure of metro now shows its own importance.As a vital element of intangible infrastructure,orientation and identification systems(O-I system herein after)is used to guide passengers' activities in the underground public space.Passengers can get a more clear recognition of where they are due to the systemic visual images of the O-I system,which maximize the functions of metro traffic facilities.Excellent O-I system not only brings convenience for passengers' life but also helps the city to increase its image,thus laying a solid foundation to developments of other fields(e.g.economy).The article focus on the performance of current O-I system when dealing with the passengers especially during rush hours by researching and analyzing the metro in Guangzhou.Three classic transfer stations are included.The article tries to find the drawbacks of current O-I system in terms of arts and design and redesign the system by combining current achievements with modern design conception.The first chapter of article illustrates the objective(s),background(s),goal(s)and meaning(s)of the study.The second chapter describes the overview of the O-I system and its spacial structure elements,then making where the key point(s)lie(s)clear.Next chapter is about the views of current O-I system in Guangzhou and its drawback.And in this chapter,the drawbacks when dealing with passengers during rush hour in terms of the art and functional fields will be discussed emphatically.The last but not the least chapter will try to create a redesign of the current O-I system in Guangzhou on the basis of the former chapters by checking its vacancy and holes.And the relationship between norms andspecial case,humanism and the refinement of regional zone will also be mentioned.
