This is a translation reporton the leaders' debate of Australia 2010.The debate is the confrontation between Prime Minister Julia Gillard and the leader of the Coalition Opposition,Tony Abbott. The theme of the debate is about domestic and foreign policies, which include the economic plan, asylum seekers and climate change. This text not only expresses the tendency of Australian domestic affairs and diplomatic policies, but also embodies the distinctive linguistic and stylistic features, which attract a lot of attention. As a text of political debate, its translation should convey the information accurately and ensure the readability to the target readers.Given this,Functional Equivalence Theory of Eugene A.Nida has provided a perspective for translation.Nida explains that translators should achieve equivalence not only in meaning, but also in forms as much as possible. Therefore,in this report, flexible approaches are adopted to achieve functional equivalence at the lexical level and the syntactic level. This report consists of five chapters in all.Chapter one briefs a general introduction of the text background and the significance of the translation.Chapter two discusses the preparation of the translation, including the research status, the translation theory and the text analysis.Chapter three elaborates translation process.Guided by Functional Equivalence Theory, solutions to the difficulties and case analysis are discussed. The following chapter focuses on the review process for the translation. The last chapter concludes the major findings and limitations. This translation report aims to improve the theoretical and practical translation abilities, which contribute to the learners of translation.
