This is a translation project report for the two chapters of A Walk on the Beach written by American authoress Joan Anderson. The translator tries to seek suitable translation strategies and methods so as to represent the both language features and text style of the original text to the greatest extent.Mainly characterized by narration,A Walk on the Beach is featured by concise and natural language, lots of scenery description and soul feeling. Its beautiful wording and philosophic thoughts demand the translator to convey the both literary features and thoughtful content to target readers.Under the guidance of Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory, the translator aims to discuss the translation problems arising from this project—how to accurately understand and convey the poetic and philosophic words and expressions to target readers and how to make the target version conform to the reading habbits of target readers without sacrificing the style of the original text—mainly from the two aspects of semantic and stylistic equivalence.Under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory, the translator,in thiscommentary, abandons the traditional concept of part of speech, employing theconversion of POS to illustrate the different semantic relations between words and overcomes the syntactic obstacles by the means of long sentence splitting, subject preposition and asyndeton, thereby achieving better semantic equivalence. In terms of those philosophic expressions full of literary asthetics, the.translator pays attention to the delivery of the literary flavor and emotions of the original text and tries to achieve stylistic equivalence, thus to provoke emotional resonance with target readers. The translator holds that Functional Equivalence Theory which emphasizes infidelity to the formal equivalence between the original and target texts can well guide the translation practice and the analysis of and research on the examples provides theoretical and practical reference to biography translation.
