Rene Magritte was one of the most significant artists in the first half of twentieth century and his works which called "Magic Surrealism" have a profound influence on the contemporary art.He relied on image as an instrument to explore many metaphysical issues about paintings,such as what is painting and for what we have to draw.The meanings of his works have already went beyond the Surrealists whose pursuit of the internal logical expression of thinking which was hidden in the behind of rational thought.In the meanwhile,his art works have proved the legitimacy of their own objectivity,and then extricate paintings from the shackles of making illusions.Magritte's works beyond painting as a presentational form of representation or symbolic,pointing to the mystique outside paintings which was a kind of absurdity that burst from the crack of daily experience.Therefore,those seemingly rational and orderly paintings always make their viewers astonished.In this paper,on the one hand by collating many important details of Magritte's early life,demonstrating the formation of his concepts of art.On the other hand,attempting to explore two key issues throughout his"Surrealism":The first is based on the artistic form what is the dialectical relation of "real" and "illusion";the second is a dialectical relationship between words and images of these two fictional expression system.
