Influenced by the philosophical ideas of Confucianism,Taoism and Buddhism,traditional Chinese painting develops its special aesthetic charm,creating an aesthetic trend of "advocating simpleness,grasping significance and valuing essence".While an artistic work is in the process of creating,the interior setting of "Heart-describing"and“Spirit-painting" is prioritized so as to emphasize the creator's subjective feeling,using the simplified drawing language to manifest the boundless artistic conception and elegant taste."Exerting significance and charm" is the unique characteristic and foundation of the shaping art in Chinese painting,internalizing the soul of Chinese aesthetics and the essence of Chinese traditional abstract painting.Throughout the ages,all of the Chinese painters have been pursuing the state of exerting significance and charm so as to bring a fresh life to their paintings,endowing them with humanistic connotations.With the advance of the times and the constant immersion of new western artistic ideas,a new situation of flourishing different styles appears in the contemporary Chinese painting realm.Chinese traditional abstract figure painting is also developing constantly and many excellent innovative works have been created.However,some undesirable phenomena also appear alongside with the development.While being created and designed,some Chinese paintings separate themselves from the feelings towards life and lack the expression to exert significance and charm.They stiffly imitate the figures in western realism instead and copy the ancient ideas or just paint at will.Works created under such rules can only be conceptualized,lacking the inner significance and charm but just showing off the portrait of figures and painting techniques,which leads the works into the situation of just "painting a picture without any interior attractiveness"." The main reason for this problem is the deviated ideas in painting.The problem of "portraying figures without feelings and extensive use of western style figure-shaping" is caused by the deviated ideas and observing methods.And the problem of "prioritizing exterior techniques and expression of texture" is due to the deviation of embodying methods.The author thinks that the phenomenon of lacking inner significance and charm has derailed from the road of searching the essence of Chinese painting.Therefore,how to re-recognize,re-understand and re-consider the aesthetic significance and charm of Chinese figure painting is of ultra-importance.Focusing on the problem of missing significance and charm in modern Chinese traditional abstract figure painting,this paper brings out the idea that significance and charm should be the inseparable soul of Chinese painting.In the meanwhile,how to create the significance and charm while the painting is themed and designed is also analyzed and discussed from the aspects of artistic conception,figure-shaping,paintbrush and ink.The crucial function of significance and charm for the abstract figure painting is also explored by pondering over the significance and charm in Chinese traditional painting.What's more,with reference to her creating experience,while elaborating her personal understanding of significance and charm,the author also brings forth how to create new significance and charm with the assistance of integrating the updated ideas and conceptions into the creation.The writer is willing to contribute some positive influence over Chinese traditional abstract figure paintings and is expecting to witness more greater paintings being created in the future.
