Research On Houshan’s Notes

Literary sketch developed very well in Song Dynasty.Houshan’s Notes written by Chen Shidao,as one of literary sketches in Song Dynasty,shows historical events,monarch-officeholder stories and folk customs,which helps the posterity study the history,literature and social culture of Northern Song Dynasty.However,Chen Shidao is quite known for his poetry and the academia mainly focuses on his poetries.Thus,Houshan’s Notes has not caught enough attention and research about it is not enough.A systematic study is made on Houshan’s Notes in this paper which contains the following chapters:The first chapter studies the publication and version of Houshan’s Notes and classifies its contents into 12 categories,including deeds of figures,literature and art,craft and skill,paraphrase of antiques,historical events,anecdotes,supernatural culture,author’s views,thoughts of Buddhism and Taoism,ancient laws and regulations,dietetic life-nourishing,as well as folk customs.The second chapter studies the historical value of Houshan’s Notes,mainly taking the important historical events and monarch-officeholder stories for example.The third chapter studies the culture,art and folk customs of Northern Song Dynasty reflected in Houshan’s Notes,mainly taking calligraphy,painting,folk customs and life-nourishing for example.The fourth chapter studies ideology and the influence on the later generations in Houshan’s Notes.
