Adverb has been an important section and difficult part of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language.Modal adverbs,however,is the most difficult part in the adverb system for it related to cross-language expression such as emotions,attitude and others,what's more,it is also a measurement of a student's Chinese language level.In order to assess the Lao students' acquisition status of modal adverb when studying Chinese language,this research quoted modal adverbs included in Chinese Proficiency Vocabulary And Grade Outline of Chinese Characters(revised edition),The Grading Standards of the Level of Chinese And The Grammar Class Outline,The Teaching Outline for Foreign Students Who Are Learning Chinese in High Schools(Long-term studies)and the Modem Chinese Frequency Dictionary(in Chinese)as well as former researchers' theses.48 common modal adverbs were selected on the basis of second language acquisition theories as research projects to analyze and study the usage of modal adverbs status by Lao students in original language materials.First,this research confirmed Lao students' acquisition difficulties by quantitative researches on Lao students' usage and biased errors of common modal adverbs and analyzing and assessing the cause of biased errors appeared in every stage of their Chinese learning by analyzing intermediate corpus.Second,this research combined the analyzation of original language materials and the result of grammar test to reconstruct the Chinese modal adverbs acquisition order of Lao students in each learning stage.Then,on the basis of the results,this research compared with that of Laos students,Thai students,Vietnamese students and Indonesian students.The comparison outcome shows that five foreign students' Chinese moral adverbs acquisition orders were surprisingly high coherent in general.The results could be an example and a proof to some extent.Last,this research also studied the setting of the common modal adverbs included in The Graded Chinese Syllables,Characters and words for the Application of Teaching Chinese to the Speakers of Other Languages and HANYUJIAOCHENG,and gave advice on difficult modal adverbs teaching.Hope that it can offer some practical help to modal adverb teaching in Lao and Southeast Asia.
