The adverb "dou" is one of the most frequently used adverbs in the Chinese grammar. This adverb is being used both in speaking and writing per se. "Dou" has various descriptions in meaning, structure, usage, sentence pattern and in different aspects. Moreover, it possesses certain complexities that it becomes a difficulty for the learners of the language. Errors committed are quite immense and Indonesian students are also not an exception. In order to understand the usage of "dou" among Indonesian students, this research paper elucidates the scope of the adverb "dou", its language tone and undergoes analysis as well as thorough discussion. Subsequently, it explores the parallels and differences based from these two semantic aspects. Through the researcher’s and of the Indonesian students’ experiences on learning the Chinese adverb "dou" and also from the output of the student’s composition writing, collected corpus errors and questionnaires, this research paper summarizes the types of errors committed and investigates the sources of these errors to come up with more relevant teaching strategies.
