Translation Of Sociological Texts

Translation of social science texts is different from that of natural science texts or technical texts.Besides,it is also different from that of literary texts.In general,natural science theories need a high degree of generalization,and social science theories often rigidly adhere to the social and cultural context.Social science texts are also unique in that they are communicated through concepts that are shared or argued for a particular academic circle or group.Therefore,how to better translate social science texts is the target of this translation report.This E-C translation report is based on an article entitled Governing urbanization and the New Urbanization Plan in China,written by two associate professors Li Bingqin and Chen Chunlai of Crawford School of Public Policy in Australian National University and Hu Biliang,professor of economics and the director of the Emerging Market Institute in Beijing Normal University and published in Environment & Urbanization.The article analyzes the problems encountered by China in the process of urbanization and whether the new policy introduced by New Urbanization Plan(2014-2020)can help to solve these problems.This translation report is based on the principle of seeking truth from facts,and explores the translation strategies in the practice and then sums them up in order to achieve the ultimate purpose of the translation report,instead of blindly copying the translation theories.Therefore,in the translation of this article,the author use the corresponding translation strategies through the summary of the characteristics of social science,as much as possible to retain the original style of style,to achieve balance between original language and target language in grammar rules and writing habits.Through the practice of this translation project,the author has a new understanding of the translation of social science text,which laid a solid foundation for the future translation of the relevant text.
