Translation Practice Report On Tianjin University News From The Perspective Of Translation Variation Theory

With the increase of international cultural exchanges,the links between universities at home and abroad are also increasingly close.Some domestic universities have begun to strengthen the international communication to let more people get the latest information of the university,and one of the way they adopt is to construct its English news web.Chinese news web is the most authoritative channel to know the current news of universities,while the English web is the main window for publicity and it plays a vital role in enhancing the school image and the publicity effect.In general situation,the news of English web is translated from Chinese web,therefore,translation has an extremely important place in this process.News translation is a cross-cultural communication process.Differences between Chinese and Western cultures,news styles and readers' reading habits make it difficult to use full translation in news translation.In order to maximize the transmission of the original text,the translator often needs to make some changes on the original text.Chinese scholar Huang Zhonglian puts forward the concept of translation variation in his book Translation Variation Theory,which is applied to meet the demands of readers through using different means of translation.Based on news from Tianjin University English web,this translation practice report discusses the translation principles and skills from the perspective of translation variation theory.It aims to explain the feasibility of this theory to guide the news translation.This theory consists of seven variation methods,three of which are used here: editing,amplification and subtraction.This practice combined the three methods with case analysis from headline,text and cultural word.Through analysis it's found that variation translation is applicable to news translation.This practice report has four parts: project description,translation process,case analysis and conclusion.The project description and translation process mainly introduce the translation plan,the task characteristics and the translation strategies used here.Case analysis is the core of this report,contributing to describing the translation skills of news headline,text and cultural word.Conclusion part is the last part to share some thoughts.
