Based on a set of English architectural texts from East of Asia Magazine written in the early 19 th century,this report mainly discusses their characteristics and further analyzes the difficulties in their E-C translations and the corresponding translation strategies.This report consists of four main parts.Firstly,it introduces the background of the translation project,analyses the current research status of this field and the significance of making researches on these translation texts.Secondly,the report mainly presents the project from two perspectives,one of them being the content and language characteristics,the other being the whole translation progress.Then,the report systematically explores some translation difficulties and techniques adopted during the translation progress including the translation of toponym,the specific meaning of the pronoun,the conversion of the parts of speech,the adjustment of the sentence order and the specific translation methods of the passive sentences etc.,analyzing these aspects from the perspectives of words and sentences and exemplifying them.Finally,the report makes a summary,pointing out the main results,analyzing the deficiencies and putting forward aspects that need improvement.This report aims to provide more historical facts for the Chinese building industry,a new perspective for its translation and attract more attention by summarizing some techniques of E-C translation of ancient Chinese buildings.
