TV Simultaneous Interpretation(TV SI)is gaining public attention as a new type of media interpretation.More complexed working condition of TV SI compared with Conference SI poses great challenge for TV simultaneous interpreters. The Adaptation Theory is a new linguistic theory originated from Darwin's Theory of Evolution. It is embraced by linguists for its unique interdisciplinary view and universal application. In recent years, the Adaptation Theory is being applied in the study of translation and interpretation. However, studies in TV SI in perspective of the Adaptation Theory remains rare. This paper aims at studying the feasibility of the Adaptation Theory in TV SI.Based on two versions of TV SI of the 2016 U.S.presidential debate from VOA and NTD,the study will figure out whether TV SI embodies the thoughts of the Adaptation Theory or not.The study shows that the Adaptation Theory plays a guiding role in TV SI.Interpreters make contextual adaptation via cultural equivalence and proper speculation;make structural adaptation via repetition, addition and omission;make dynamic adaptation via generalization and timely adjustment. In conclusion, the Adaptation Theory can be a guidance for TV SI.
