Simultaneous Interpreting(SI)is defined as “the act of target production of information in synchrony with the production and/or presentation of the original information”.Simulated SI,a common method utilized by the learners,intends to create a real situation for interpreters.Moreover,it can help students examine their skills,find out techniques to solve the problems emerged during the process,and then make improvements accordingly.In this way,students get more experience which can lay a solid foundation for their career as interpreters.This is a report on simulated Chinese-English simultaneous interpreting without transcript.Its material is from Luo Zhenyu's 2017 New Year's Eve Speech Friends of Time,where he shared his analysis of China's business environment.The author has not only conducted a simulated SI to set up a real interpreting scenario but also recorded the process with equipment.After that,feedback from the audiences was collected and read thoroughly.Besides,the transcript extracted from the recording was written down for analysis based on syntactic linearity.The thesis is divided into five chapters.Chapter One is introduction,including function of simultaneous interpreting,the significance of the selected speech,and the main content of this report.Chapter Two is Task Description,which briefly explains the task background and requirement.Chapter Three describes the Task Process,including pre-task preparations,interpreting process,and audience feedback.Chapter Four is the core of the report.Based on syntactic linearity,the part analyzes the interpreting skills the interpreter employed,studies the problems she met,lists the causes or effects,and comes up with some methods to solve them.Chapter Five is the Conclusion of the report,which not only clarifies the way to learn and practice for the interpreter but also summarizes what the author learned from the practice.The author has gained a lot from the activity.Firstly,she summarizes the skills used most frequently and methods to deal with emergencies in SI,which can help improve her professional competence.Secondly,she accumulates abundant business terminology,which lays the ground work in her expertise in the field.Thirdly,with a new perspective to China's knowledge-sharing service,she becomes more confident to China's national strategy of building a cultural power.
