The translation materials in this report are some academic papers from International Encyclopedia of Education(the third edition). An academic paper is rigorously characterized by its technicality with many long sentences, compound sentences and abstract nouns and technical terms. And an academic paper also characterized by its readability with short sentences, simple sentences without terms. For a translator,he must take into consideration how to achieve the technicality of the original text and the readability of the target text.According to cognitive psychology of translation, any action has an aim,a purpose.Translation behavior is the external embodiment of the translation intention and strategy use of a translator. As to the relationship between translation strategies and translation aim,the scholars at home and abroad have made many qualitative researches but little quantitative on it.This empirical report tries to make a quantitative research on it.In this report, the author takes “technicality” and “readability” as translation aims, establishes two corpora respectively for them and make a statistic analysis of the frequency of Yan Linhai's eight meta-translation strategies in two corpora.Based upon the statistical tool SPSS,the author has made a statistical analysis of the frequency use of 8 meta-translation strategies in this translation project, and aim to explore the relationship between translation strategies and translation intentions from the level of statistics. In addition, this study also contributes a certain reference value to E-C translation practices and pedagogy of academic papers.
