A Report On The E-C Translation Of The Second Chapter Of A Guide To Doing Statistics In Second Language Research Using SPSS

This report is based on the E-C translation practice of the second chapter of A Guide to Doing Statistics in Second Language Research Using SPSS written by Jenifer Larson-Hall. After introducing the prominent linguistic features of the source text, including the use of personal pronouns, terminologies, exclamatory sentences, complex sentences and active sentences, the report discusses the relevant translation strategies and methods employed in the translation practice, such as literal translation, liberal translation, transliteration, division techniques of translation, linear translation and amplification with a variety of examples. In addition, the report also stresses the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory and Skopos theory. Last but not least, a few unsolved problems in the translation practice are pointed out and discussed in the chapter of conclusion.
