This is a translation report on an English to Chinese translating practice.The source text is excerpted from International Encyclopedia of Education(3rd Edition),which collects a large number of academic papers in the field of education.All the papers excerpted in this book belong to communication-oriented papers that possess theoretical,objective and communicative characteristics.By and large,the practice of translating academic papers emphasizes that translators should be faithful to the original contentsof the texts and rational knowledge of the authors.In terms of translating rational expressions of academic papers,excessively following original contents and linguistic forms may make the translated version become obscure and deviate from the intention of communication.And the rational expression system refers to expressions like terminologies,logical connectives,compound sentences,logic structures of the original texts and so on.Therefore by conducting translation under the guidance of Cognitive Translation Mechanism(CTM),this project aims at seeking the balance between the readability and technicality for academic papers translation.This report is composed of four parts.The first partisa brief introduction to the translation project.It consists of the backgroundof this project as well as the analysis of the source text.The second partis mainly about the guiding theory: Cognitive Translation Mechanism.Itdemonstrates the operating mode and practicing process(the theory of interactive experience).The third part is the main chapter of this report,which briefly analyzes the standards and principles of CTM.The last part of this report presents a conclusion of this project.This part summarizes deficiencies and experience,and subsequently it reaches a conclusion that the balance between technicality and readability is essentially the balance between form and content of a text.
