With the rapid development of science and technology in contemporary world,Medical English,as a major branch of Science English,is playing an increasingly important role in worldwide exchange and cooperation.Translation of Medical English serves as an important way for the Chinese people to keep track of the advanced technologies and concepts in the field of medicine abroad.Although Medical English reflects the generality of human thinking in revealing the mystery of medicine, explicating the truth and clinical symptoms, translation with two languages involved cannot be rendered verbatim et literatim. Therefore, the rendering of English into Chinese does not necessarily cling to its original form when taking language coherence, thinking mode and linguistic form into consideration. In order to meet the ultimate intention of the translating practice and achieve better conveyance of information, the logical reproduction of the source language may undergo some kinds of changes in the discourse. With the development of Text Linguistics in the 1960 s,Halliday and Hassan hold that cohesion plays an important part in the criteria that help to govern the discourse. The evolution of Text Linguistics contributes greatly to the translation theories which permeate the translation to the level of discourse rather than within the internal structure of the sentences,so the logical relations in it are also involved as well.Taking cohesion theory in the discourse as a guidance, this thesis explores the reproduction of the logical relations in the translated excerpts of Medical English by comparing them with the originals after the translating practice was well completed. It consists of five chapters here. The starting chapter introduces the task of translation, briefing its background, the significance and some issues in suspense. The second chapter focuses on the task process, stating the preparation and procedure in translation, proofreading and revision. The third chapter includes a literature review,in the case of cohesion theory and pragmatic strategies concerned in the translating practice. The fourth chapter works as a case study,in which the reproduction of the logical relations in the discourse will be vividly illustrated by the specific rendering of the particular excerpts in terms of preservation, transformation, omission & addition, and migration respectively of the cohesive devices.Conversion of words to clauses or vice versa, addition, omission,or even rearrangement of components are all appropriate strategies available to facilitate the reproduction of the logical relations in a widely acclaimed translation. And in the final part a deeply knowledgeable insight was concluded in the wake of finishing of the translating practice.Through the comparative study of some cohesive devices in the texts, the logical relations in the discourse of source language emerge with a new look in specific contexts of the target language. Some translating strategies adopted ensure that the logical relations in the source language are properly transferred to the target language, thus realizing the reproduction of the logical relations in the translation as far as the discourse is concerned.
