Reading is one of the important ways to get information.English reading teaching plays an important role in English teaching at senior high school in China.And reading comprehension questions are important test topics in the college entrance English examination paper.Most teachers have also been exploring how to teach reading more effectively.It is not enough to only master language knowledge for the cultivation of reading ability.It is also necessary to make textual analysis based on the genre of the article to cultivate students' ability of controlling the different articles.Therefore,genre approach has attracted the attention of teachers and scholars in recent years.Genre-based approach applies genre and genre analysis theory to classroom teaching based on genre analysis and develops teaching activities around schematic structure of text.In the process of teaching,genre-based approach analyzes the text structure and language features of the article and understands the purpose of writing from a macro perspective,which is beneficial to students' genre awareness cultivation and the improvement of reading capacity.Genre-based approach,which emerged in the 1980 s,has been widely used in teaching abroad,especially in the United States and Australia.Many scholars and researchers have paid attention to it for the past few years.Genre-based approach is mostly used in English writing at middle school and English teaching at college.In order to further explore the role of genre-based approach in senior high school English reading,the author carried out the teaching experiment that applies genre-based approach to senior high school English reading teaching to answer the following questions:1).What significance does genre-based approach theoretically have for senior high school English reading teaching?2).How can genre-based approach be effectively applied into English reading teaching in senior high school?3).What effects does genre-based approach produce on English reading interest and reading ability of senior high school students?The teaching experiment was carried out in two classes(80 students)of the author's internship high school for a semester.One is the control class in which the traditional teaching method has been used and the other is the experimental class to which the genre-based approach has been applied.Through the statistical analysis of high school English textbooks genre,the author mainly discussed the application of genre-based approach in narrative and expository texts.Through reading test,questionnaire,classroom observation and other research methods,the paper tried to explore the influence and role of genre approach in senior high school reading teaching.The study finds that through genre approach emphasizes that articles with the same communicative purpose have similar textual structure,which can help students understand the process of text construction from a macro perspective,so as to cultivate students' genre awareness and enhance their cognitive ability.Under the guidance of the genre analysis theory and schema theory,the author can effectively carry on reading teaching according to the teaching steps of genre analysis,linguistic analysis,group discussion,imitation analysis and writing.Guided by the genre-based approach,students can use the existing genre knowledge to help them quickly clarify text structure and grasp main idea,so as to improve their reading ability and increase their reading confidence.The improvement of self-confidence can stimulate students' interest in reading.
