Application Of Parallel Texts In Military News Translation

As globalization and informationization deepen,international military news attracts much more attention.Translation of English military news would help Chinese people,especially military enthusiasts,to keep abreast of the international military,which is of practical significance.Military news is highly specialized and informative since it includes many armament names,military terms,technological terms and various proper nouns.The translation of military news is not easy due to translator's lack of military-related professional knowledge,but parallel texts can help the translator to solve this problem.Application of parallel texts not only helps the translator to acquire relevant professional knowledge so as to better understand the source text,but also helps to learn reference translation in order to improve translation quality.Based on the translation of international military news from United Press International,this translation report is intended to discuss the application of parallel texts in the E-C translation of military news.It is hoped that the translation report could shed some light on the E-C translation of military news and provide some references to relevant scholars or translators.The report has four chapters.Chapter one is description of the translation task,which includes its background,significance,contents,characteristics and requirements.Chapter two describes the translation processes including pre-translation preparation,translation and after-translation work.Chapter three introduces parallel texts and then mainly analyzes the application of parallel texts in military news translation with case studies which involve how to use parallel texts to translate armament names,military terms,technological terms and proper nouns in the news.Chapter four concludes the major findings and limitations of the translation practice.
