With the acceleration of the globalization and China's increase of comprehensive national strength, travelling abroad is becoming a hot trend. The translation of foreign country's tourist materials, thus,is in urgent demand and of great importance.Successful translation will facilitate Chinese tourists, helping China to maintain its positive image around the world, and benefiting foreign countries in their security administration.Based on translation practice, the thesis intends to conduct a study on the E-C translation of tourist texts and to explore comparatively effective translation strategies from the perspective of parallel texts. The thesis first analyzes the text type of tourist texts, discovering that tourist texts are of informative and vocative function in the first place. Then the similarities and differences of Chinese and English tourist texts are made.English tourist texts are hypotactic with simple diction,well-balanced sentences and clear linguistic logics, while Chinese ones are paratactic with grandiose diction, graceful writing style and four characters.Next, parallel texts is introduced, especially its instructive effect on pragmatic translation. The last three parts are the body of the report, some suggestions concerning the E-C translation of tourist texts are offered and tentative translation strategies are discussed from the perspective of lexicon, syntax and culture. The study certifies that applying parallel texts to pragmatic translation, such as tourist ones,is feasible.Several specific translation strategies, such as deduction, paraphrase, segmentation, recasting, embedding and aesthetic translation are put forward, which hopefully will be a guidance for the translators in the related field and contribute to the quality of tourist translation.
