Since the 21 st century,urbanization has been accelerating,and cities have created their own urban culture in the process of their own development and formation.Both historical features and cultural and historical connotations can bring different cultures to different cities and form the basic foundation of urban development.It has also become an important part and crystallization of modern human civilization.Xi general secretary has on several occasions mentioned "cultural self-confidence is a national,a country and a party of their own cultural value fully recognized and the positive practice,and the firm belief held by the cultural vitality." And unique cultural connotation of a city and history temper,from the start,plays an important role in the city's image propaganda films,and basically every city image promotion element contains the city history and culture.Compared with economic value,cultural history in the form of exhibit more broad,and it can be the city's history,cultural construction and custom culture,or passed down the city's unique flavor,taste city,a city is a distinctive originality.In 1999,weihai was the first city to carry out the exploration of the city image propaganda film,and the propaganda film of Chinese city image blossomed in all parts of the country.The city image propaganda films apply modern media technologies to artfully combine the unique geographical location,beautiful natural landscape,strong historical and cultural flavor,and well-organized modern urban landscape of a city together through video art,tells stories of the past,present and future of the city from different perspectives,and have gradually become an important way to fully display the city image and promote economic development.Although there has emerged lots of excellent city image propaganda films after several decades' development like Hangzhou which maximizes the expression of artistic conception and Love Letters of Suzhou which is shot in micro film,rare theoretical studies on this type of film have been done after a review on relevant researches,and there is almost no studies on China's city propaganda film from the light of auditory arts.As an independent branch of audio-visual arts,auditory arts has been perfectly incorporated with visual arts since the born of sound film,showing a strong expressive force.Unlike visual arts which can directly present the needed information to audiences through pictures,auditory arts can only abstractly express the intrinsic messages by forms of music,sound and voice-over etc.Therefore,there is a need to make an overall interpretation on the sound in city image propaganda films so as to deeply understand its expression characteristics and analyze its functions in film.With a graduation film The Bank of Qi River and some prominent Chinese city image propaganda films as the example,the auditory arts in the city image propaganda films as the core,and the theories of radio and television art and communication sciences as the combined research method,this study attempts to make a systematic examination on the value of auditory arts in city image propaganda films and perfect the theoretical researches on this kind of films.Starting from an introduction of city image propaganda films,this paper reviews the development of city image propaganda films,divides them into realistic phase and freehand rendering phase according to their creation styles,makes a type analysis on these films,and explores their functions from perspectives of building brand,improving city image,guarding traditional cultures and arousing social recognition,aiming at to show the value of studying city image propaganda films.Through a research on the auditory arts in these films,it is found that the expression characteristics of auditory arts mainly include the following several aspects: just like the picture,the sound should undertake the task of narrating when displaying the development of things;the auditory sense should be able to make the expression of content more coherent when connecting pictures and expressing emotions;the language can genuinely describe and record events in real life;and the sound in this kind of films can create a real atmosphere and depict delicate and true story lines.Meanwhile,this paper also makes a systematic theoretical study on auditory artistic elements in city image propaganda films,investigates the application of auditory arts in these films,analyzes the function and value of auditory arts in the films from points of music,sound and voice-over,and extensively expounds the necessity of studying city image propaganda films from the angle of auditory arts.Besides,this study also discusses the impact of this type of films on the economic value,cultural value and image construction value,hoping to provide theoretical references and bases to future development practice of city image propaganda films,make these films demonstrate more values,enable people experience the charm of the city deeply,and speed up a continuous social progress.
