As a main tool for students to learn and understand English, reading is also an important way to obtain information.Reading ability is one of the keys to evaluate students' English comprehensive qualities and abilities, and the cultivation of English reading abilities is an important and difficult part in high school English learning.Hence, many teachers and researchers both at home and abroad paid great attention to it.Educators are actively trying many teaching modes to improve the reading abilities of senior high school students so as to meet the requirements of the new curriculum standards. As a modern teaching mode, the guided-learning plan is expected to change students' bad English habits and enhance the English reading abilities of senior high school students.Guided by constructivism, humanistic and meaningful learning theory, this study mainly discusses how to combine the guided-learning plan with English reading teaching in high school. In order to better design the guided-learning plan and improve students' English reading levels, the author conducted the practical study. This research mainly revolves around three questions: 1)What are the effects of the guided-learning plan on students' reading interests in senior high school students? 2)What is the impact of the guided-learning plan on students' English reading grades in senior high school? 3)What are the factors that affect the implementation of the guided-learning plan? The study includes 84 students,42 students in the control class(CC)and 42 students in the experimental class(EC)in a senior high school in Dalian and conducts the teaching experiment for a term. When conducting the reading teaching, the experimental class uses the guided-learning plan while the control class adopts the traditional teaching mode. The research methods include interview,questionnaire,pre-test and post-test.The research results show that: 1)the guided-learning plan can enhance students' interests in English reading;2)the guided-learning plan can help students improve their English reading grades;3)The implementation of the guided-learning plan will be affected by the factors such as students' abilities of self-control,the design of the guided-learning plan, teachers' attitudes towards the guided-learning plan. This study provides some valuable inspirations for English reading teaching in senior high school. From the teachers' perspectives, teachers should pay attention to the reasonable arrangement of teaching contents, optimize the design of teaching activities and improve the teaching efficiency. From the students' perspectives, students need to change their bad English reading habits as soon as possible to adapt themselves to the guided-learning plan. However, due to less research subjects, and the tests being mainly based on multiple choices, there exists certain shortcomings and limitations in this research, which need to be improved in the future research.
