Ancient Chinese dynasties pay little attention to the ocean,so that the coastal areas are often lagged behind.During the Ming and Qing Dynasties,coastal areas had been abandoned for a long time with the marine ban policy implemented by the central government.In the middle of Qing Dynasty,the central government gradually rebuilt the administrative control of the coastal areas with the establishment of administrative region,the relocation of residents,construction of water conservancy,the reclamation of lands,which resulted in the redevelopment of the coastal areas.This paper choose the example of the east coast of Yueqing bay as the research area,which was located on the eastern coast of Zhejiang,the junction of Wenzhou Prefecture and Taizhou Prefecture in the Ming and Qing Dynasties and had both agriculture and Fisheries.The research periods focuses on the Ming and Qing Dynasties.This paper is based on the local records of Ming and Qing Dynasties and other historical materials of the east coast of Yueqing Bay.It discussed the transition of administrative system in this area with historical events,and rebuilt the temporal and spatial distribution of geographical elements-including population,village,cultivated land and water conservancy facilities in this area-to study the development situation in this area before and after some historical events like the marine ban and the rebuilding of the administrative control(establishment of Yuhuan Subprefecture).By researching and analyzing the process of the development and the change of the administrative system in this research area,this paper drew the conclusion that political factors were the most important factor affecting the development of some coastal areas,which could provide references and insights to the modem development of coastal areas. |
