Richard Strauss's <Symphonia Domestica> Research

Richard Strauss was the last leading composer of the German late romantic,who was famous because of his unique style of tone poems.Symphonia Domestica is a tone poem which created in 1903,and it was controversial for the special programme.In order to reveal the creation oriented and the relationship between the programme and music,this thesis will research this work with two different angles,music content and the connection with others works created around Symphonia Domestica.And use Strauss's others tone poems as reference objects to observe how the music logic and programme logic developed in his works.There are four chapters in this thesis.And the main research object is Symphonia Domestica.I'm trying to find out what did composer say in this work about the relationship between programme and music.For observe the change in Strauss's creating thinking of tone poems.Chapter one was built upon the history observation.Through the work's reception history,work's creating time and the meaning of the turning point,m trying to discuss the significance of Symphonia Domestica.Chapter two was the specific analysis of work's form with three different aspects such as layout,structure principle and music materials to ensure the genre and the music logic in it.In the chapter three,I'm dealing with the music materials in works.Those materials were based on the chapter two,with more subtle analysis from key interval,motive to musical themes to enclose how the theme developt in this work.Chapter four summarizes Strauss's tone poems creation.Investigating others tone poems' creating with main research object to find out what's the different between them.The last part summary as a final thought,summarizes all four chapter and concludes the main view deeper,to unscramble the music content and the programme meaning in the round.The end of this thesis discovered the artistic value of Symphonia Domestica with the music itself.
