The art history of human almost begins with imitation.Copying is an important learning method for practitioners of painting.Based on the viewpoint of artistic autonomy and the characteristics of the traditional Chinese painting practice,this article attempts to tease out learning methods and summarize experience of copying arts,through the ancient and modern Chinese paintings of several typical imitation cases and the author's two different copying works during postgraduate period.In this article,the previous techniques and theories were also combined to explore the patterns of self-painting.This article mainly contains four aspects:1.This paper summarizes the phenomena and cases of copying in traditional Chinese paintings,and reveals the importance of copying.2.From the failure creation,the author attempts to find insufficient,and then back to the copy,with a targeted solution to the problem.Copying the painting Catching the Sheep for the simple purpose of technique learning,the author attempt to summarize the experience and find out the relationship between the degree of similar and the mastery of technique.3.On the basis of complete copying,a variation of the higher requirement of the Song dynasty painting searching the mountain was made,thus a series of self-painting exploration can be carried on.4.After copying two paintings,the author sum up the experience for the future painting's reference.At the end,the author emphasize a point that copying is a learning method,and the real creation must be combined with calligraphy,sketching and so on,which can make the artist more mature and confident,and finally have the ability of independent creation.
