The Application Of The Translation Variation Theory

The rapid development of science and technology allows the convenient communication worldwide,thus English is used more widely in science and technology.In the meantime,scientific translation is playing an increasingly prominent role in the exchange,advance and development of science and technology home and abroad.Based on the English-Chinese translation of the test report named “Fatigue behavior of a 7075-T6 aluminum alloy coated with an electroless Ni-P deposit” in material chemistry field which was published in the International Journal of Fatigue,this paper illustrates the text analysis of language features of the source text,and focuses on difficulties encountered and the corresponding skills applied under the guidance of Translation Variation Theory during translation.The source text belongs to the style of science and technology.Therefore,it lays emphasis on the transmission of information and practicality of text.This is a small-scaled project.The author alone accepted this project with explicit requirement that target readers are those who work as technicians and barely have any English education background in material chemistry field,and the translation must cover all the necessary information(experimental techniques,procedures and results)with the appropriate omission of relatively unimportant information.Therefore,flexible translation skills should be adopted in order to obtain necessary information within the limited time.This paper attaches great importance to the readability and acceptance of the translation and is supposed to offer some references for the translation and operation of similar documents.
