The current investigation of the South Manchuria Railway has just begun from the perspective of cultural heritage,and the depth and breadth of the research are not enough,and the quantitative description of the specific contents of the cultural relics is not very clear,which make that the protection planning and utilization of the South Manchuria Railway lack the comparatively complete basic datas.In particular,the understanding of the South Railway is still simple outline,and its rich connotation and outstanding value can not be fully reflected.In view of this situation,the author will research the timespace distribution of the points,lines and nets and the related characters of the South Manchuria Railway(Liaoning section)in the base of Liaoning Province Cultural Relics Bureau and the Cultural Protection Center have made a lot of preliminary work as well as the results of the third non-mobile Cultural relics survey in Liaoning Province for providing some references for further researches.Guided by this purpose,the main idea of this paper is that firstly display situtation of the South-full railway based on the census data and related historical documents,from time and space qualitative and quantitative,then analyze its characteristics and value,and put forward the superficial protection and utilization recommendations,as follows:The first part(the second chapter: the space-time expression of the South Manchuria Railway cultural relics)comprehensively shows the contents of the cultural heritage ontology of the the South Manchuria railway.This part uses the space-time description way.In the time,firstly outline the historical development of the South Railway(the construction of the Middle East railway is detrimental to Japanese interests,Japan make the war for the benefit,Japan won the South full railway after the victory of the War of Resistance,Japan returned to the South full railway into a Sino-Soviet condominium,in 1952 the railway was handed over to China so far),then comprehensively combs the South Full railroad formation and the development this time axis,and unifies with the time node closely related historical relics carries on the classification grade analysis;In the space,it is clear about this paper' view,namely as a large cultural heritage the South Railway should not be simply construed as a railroad line in modern history,but be a cultural heritage belt and heritage of dots,lines and nets,including the :(i)railway network,which introduces the trunk lines of the Southern full railway and the important nodes on the line.And graphically illustrates the south-full railroad's counterpart to today's railways,because it is being protected from today's railways.(ii)ancillary,which is intended to be carried out through the various functions historical buildings,eg:cultural and educational medical,financial,commercial,residential,resource,railway-related,etc and key areas,eg: Shenyang,Dalian,Anshan,Benxi,Yingkou,etc in order to protect it from the overall planning and subregional focus.The second part(the third chapter: characteristics analysis of the points,lines,nets of the South Manchuria Railway)deeply analyses characters of points,lines,nets about the the South Manchuria Railway for showing its rich historical and cultural value so that fully understands urgency and importance of the South railway protection.(i)the study of points,pointing out that points of cultural relics are the important historical witness to this large cultural heritage,and these dots are available on the network,which in turn makes up the large wire mesh;(b)the study of the lines,pointing out that the trunk and spur lines of the railway are the most fundamental elements of this large cultural heritage.The historical and economic reasons for the formation of the trunk lines and the spur line are the value of this cultural heritage.(c)the study of the networks,pointing out that the network is the foothold of this paper,and a new perspective of cultural heritage.After recognizing above characters of points,lines and nets in macroscopic,this paper describes the characteristics of each of them,and compares them with other linear and cultural heritages.The third part(the fourth chapter: the thinking of protection and utilization planning)puts forward some suggestions on the protection,planning and utilization of the Southern Railway(Liaoning section),which is another important part of this article.First,paper comprehensively reaffirms the overall situation of the railwa South Manchuria Railway,including its formation and development and components,and then pointes out that the railway' value,although it involves history,science and economy,art and society in all aspects,but this article emphasizes its scientific economic value and historical value.Then,it points out that some protection exploration which has been done on the point-line network and this part fully absorbs the protection strategy of other railways such as Yunnan-Vietnam railway,so as to provide the railway with a little thought on the protection which is still in the initial stage.Finally,the author presents some simple ideas about the planning of the protection and utilization of the Southern Railway,but these ideas are put forward on based of general situation,characteristic analysis and value evaluation.In the Appendix,the South Manchuria Railway related historical building general layout will be displayed in the form of chart which occupies a large length of article,moreover,stem,feeder and station grade and the bridge,tunnel table and historical buildings of the functional classification of South Manchuria Railway are presented respectively.
