China Dolls is one of the most important works of Lisa See who is a Chinese American woman novelist and best-selling author.This novel was published in 2014 and hasn't got a Chinese version.The novel describes the stories among three Asian American girls.The translated material is extracted from the third chapter: The Truth: December 1945–June 1948 of this novel.The translation of a novel belongs to literary translation,and the novel belongs to expressive text.Because there are many characters and dialogues in the novel,and the inner life of people is complex and contradictory,people's discourse is not always the content itself in real life,the author takes the Grammar Metaphor theory of Halliday as theoretical support to explore the significance of the theory in literary translation(especially in the translation of English novels).On the basis of Halliday's Grammar Metaphor theory,and combined with translation strategies like domestication and foreignization,the translator tried to elaborate the true meaning of the work and give readers a feeling of being enlightened.This translation report is divided into four parts besides the original English and the translated Chinese version.The first part is the task description.The second part is the translation description.The third part lists some cases for analysis.The fourth part is the summary and conclusion of this translation practice.Through this translation practice,the translator deeply understands the true meanings of the qualifications that a translator must have a good mastery of Chinese and English languages and translation strategies,a good literature cultivation and good understanding of two different cultures,so,there is a long way to go before one becomes a really good translator.
