This paper is a translation practice report, and the source material is extracted from the first five chapters in the novel A Pair of Blue Eyes, written by Thomas Hardy(1840-1928).A pair of Blue Eyes is the one that marks Hardy's art of fiction stepping into mature period. This novel mainly talks about the process of the love between the heroine and four heroes developing form sprout to disillusion, which not only expresses Hardy's usual pessimism, but also discloses the wealth gap in that society. All this lays the foundation of his following novels both in the main idea and artistic form. This novel occupies an important position in all of his novels.Although this novel is pretty significant, there are no translation versions of it,therefore, the translator decides to put the A Pair of Blue Eyes work as the source text and uses the theory of Function Plus Loyalty put forward by Christiane Nord, the representative of the second generation of Skopos,to analyze the translation methods used in the translation practice. In the translation process, the translator mainly uses two translation strategies put forward by Nord:Documentary translation and Instrumental Translation and the specific translation methods include heterofunctional translation, corresponding functional translation, literal or grammar translation, philological or learned translation,word-for-word translation and so on.The ultimate objective of this translation practice is to provide Chinese readers who are interested in Hardy's works with a translation version, and make contributions to literal research as possible as she can.
