| Under the guidance of Nord’s “function plus loyalty”,this report takes the biographies of Dickens and Muhammad in the website of Encyclopedia Britannica as examples to explore the translation strategies of biography.In the biography,the author vividly narrates the life,works and comments of others to record the life experience of the protagonist in a real way.Through reading biographical works,readers can not only have a more in-depth and comprehensive understanding of the protagonist,but also have a better insight of the historical,cultural and social background of the protagonist.Starting from the two characteristics of biographies,this report discusses the translation strategies of authentic and artistic expressions in the biographies of Dickens and Muhammad by combining the two translation strategies of documentary translation and instrumental translation proposed by Nord.The report can be divided into six parts: in the first part,the translator task will be introduced;in the second part,a detailed description of the translation process will be given,including pre-translation,in-translation and post-translation proofreading work;in the third part,the development of German functionalism will be introduced briefly,and an elaborate introduction of Nord’s “function plus loyalty” principle will be given;in the fourth part,the source text will be analyzed from the two characteristics of the biography which are authentic expressions and artistic expressions;in the fifth part,the translation strategies of biographies will be discussed with examples in translation practice;and in the last part,the significance and deficiency of the report will be summarized.This report combines Nord’s theory of “function plus loyalty” with biography,explores and analyzes other practical translation strategies on the basis of two translation strategies documentary translation and instrumental translation. |
