This is a practice report on the E-C translation of Time Lines World History Dates,which is written by Penny Clarke.With reader-friendly language,the book provides profound historic knowledge for children.In this report,the translator has made persistent efforts to reproduce the meaning and style of the source text by using various translation strategies and techniques according to the specific requirements of purpose,context,audience and style.Firstly,the translator analyzes the features and style of the source text through the reflection of the translation task.Then,the translator summarizes the specific problems such as how to meet the cognitive level of the target readers and how to recreate the literariness in the target text,as well as provides related strategies and methods,such as amplification,transition,Chinese four-character structure and repetition.At last,the translator concludes the achievements and shortcomings in the translation,as well as the countermeasures to improve the translation skills.Through this translation task,the translator has a more profound understanding on the popular science writing for children and summarizes the corresponding translation strategies and methods.It is hoped that the translation skill can be improved and this paper has some referential value for other translators who are involved in the translation of popular science writing for children.
