Mind map is a kind of thinking tool that can facilitate the learning and thinking process of the users through the application of pictures,colors and codes.In recent years,mind map has been used in the field of education,but there are few cases in which mind map is applied to English grammar teaching.Therefore,with English grammar teaching in middle school as the breakthrough point,this research applies mind map to grammar teaching to find out whether the mind map can arouse students' interest in grammar learning and their autonomous learning ability,and whether it can promote students' grammar performance.For the purpose of testifying the feasibility of mind map on English grammar teaching,an empirical study was carried out in this research.With the 80 students from two parallel classes in Grade two of experimental middle school in Kashgar as the research subjects,one class randomly selected as experimental class,the other as control class.The teaching experiment lasts two months and it is carried out in the second half of 2017.Before the experiment,a grammar test is taken to students in experimental class and control class and the results show that grammar test scores of the two classes have no significant difference,so the two classes can be chosen as experimental class and control class.During the process of experiment,English teacher of experimental class applies mind map to grammar teaching,while students in control class are taught with traditional method.After two month,a post test is carried out in two classes and the results are analyzed by SPSS22.0.Besides,before and after experiment,in order to have a comprehensive understanding of current situations about grammar teaching in middle school and the attitudes of teachers and students towards the application of mind map,the research interviews some English teachers and distributes questionnaires to students,and then the data are analyzed.The results of experiment show that the average score of experimental class is higher than control class,significant difference exists in two classes' grammar scores in the post test,and students' performance in experimental class has increased after experiment compared to their previous performance before experiment.All above indicate that mind map plays an active role in promoting students' grammar performance compared to the previous grammar teaching method.After analyzing the results of interviews and questionnaires,it is found that mind map can enlighten students' grammar learning interest and autonomous learning ability in some degree.And combining mind map with grammar teaching is feasible and the application ofmind map is helpful to teach grammar efficiently.
