This thesis is a report on a translation project which is composed of four users' manuals for four different types of coring tools. The author has worked as a part-time translator in Beijing Haoyilai Translating Center where she was entrusted with this project thanks to her long-term performance and problem-solving ability in the company. This text falls into the category of science and technology writing in oil industry and has in total around 11,000 Chinese characters. Its Chinese version is composed by CCDC.The company is now attempting to tap into overseas markets,so it is in urgent need of an English introduction to its products. This thesis takes into consideration English linguistic features of users' manuals for technological products, such as professional,practical,well-structured,clear,objective,much use of passive voice and sentences with no subjects, and large use of technical terms,sub-technical terms and jargon.Under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory, the author summarizes lessons and experiences learned from translating this project.Specifically, after the introduction of the project and translation process, this thesis sums up translation experiences through a lot of case studies.Case studies based on Functional Equivalence Theory act as the core and focus of this paper, and in this part the author discusses the comprehension and translation of key and difficult words, technical terms and sub-technical terms from lexical level;and summarize experiences and skills in translating long, difficult and complicated sentences and non-subject sentences from syntactic level.
