A Report On The Translation Of Cinema Approaching Reality (Chapter Three)

This paper is a translation practice report.The original translating material is from the book CINEMA APPROACHING REALITY: Locating Chinese Film Theory by Victor Fan,who is Senior Lecturer at the Department of Film Studies,King's College London.The writer undertakes the translation work of Chapter 3,the main content of Chapter 3 is about the soft film theory,which involves the historic and cultural backgrounds of soft film theory's emerging and development in China and its impacts on modern filming history of China.This paper mainly consists of four parts.The first part is a brief description of translation material,the second part is theoretic analysis of choosing Pound's translation for this practice.Since the source material belongs to literary critics texts,so the main ideas of Pound's translation theory which are creative interpretation and detail translation are quite suitable for this translation practice.The third part is case analysis and the last part is overall summary of this translation practice.Through this translation practice,the translator benefits much and makes great progress in translation theory and competence,literary critics texts are different from ordinary translation materials which contain much more professional words and critic thoughts,it requires more translation skills,thus the appropriate choosing of translation theory and techniques is vital to translation practice.At the same time,the author deeply realizes that a translator should be excellent at both source language and target language skills.Besides,the translator should always be ready to learn.
