Reading is considered as a mental activity that combines all kinds of advanced neurological functions,and it is greatly influenced by the previous schema of readers.In the teaching of English reading in senior high school,teachers pay more attention to students' study of vocabulary and grammar,while ignore the cultivation of content schema of students such as the relevant cultural background knowledge,which influence students' English reading ability deeply.This research attempts to apply content schema to teaching of English reading in senior high school.It is discussed the practical application of content schema to the teaching of English reading in senior high school with following research questions.(1)Can the application of content schema in English reading increase students' interests?(2)Can the English reading achievement of students in experimental class be improved after the 4-month application of content schema to the teaching of English reading?An empirical study is conducted on the application of content schema to the teaching of English reading in senior high school.104 students from two parallel classes in Senior Two of Tianshui Changcheng Middle School are chosen as the research subjects,and they are divided into experimental class and control class randomly.Questionnaire survey,testing,observation,and interview are taken as the research methods.SPSS17.0 is used to compare and analyze the data collected in experiment,which aims to verify whether it can increase students' interests in English reading and improve their English reading achievements when applying the content schema to the teaching of English reading.This research aims to provide some constructive suggestions for current English teaching.The results of the research illustrate that it can increase students' interests in English reading and improve their English reading achievements in experimental class when applying content schema to the teaching of English reading.From the results,some conclusions can be summarized as follows: the application of content schema can enhance students' self-confidence in English learning,cultivate their cultural awareness and improve their reading interests.What's more,some feasible suggestions are also put forward by the author from the perspective of teachers and students.
