A Practice Report On Economic And Trade Lecture Interpretation From The Perspective Of Daniel Gile Model

The formula of comprehension and Effort Model theory make up the interpretation model theory of Gile.The formula of comprehension theory stresses the flexible and coordinated application of linguisitic knowledge,extra linguistic knowledge and analyzing ability.Under the Effort Model theory,there are two phases in consecutive interpreting.The first phase consists of the efforts used in listening and comprehending,note-taking,short-term memory and coordinating,focusing mainly on the integration of source information.The second phase then mainly deals with the output of target language,including memorizing,reading and comprehending notes,and speech production efforts.The interpretation model theory of Gile is of great significance in the instruction of interpretation study and practice.From July,28th to August,9th,the author worked as an interpreter in "Seminar on Economic and Trade Officials for South-Pacific Countries,2017",which was launched by China,s Ministry of Commerce in Hunan Province and undertaken by Hunan International Business Vocational College.This interpreting report is mainly the cases analysis of the Economic and Trade lecture interpreting practice of the author.Due to limited interpreting ability and experience,as well as the difficulties in the interpreting task,the author found lots of difficulties in conveying successfully the information and communication intentions of the speaker to the audience.Under the guidance of Gile's interpreting model theory,the author analyzes the problems encountered in interpretation including six aspects on linguistic knowledge,extra-linguistic knowledge,analysis,listening and analysis,note-taking and short-term memory and psychological state,and puts forward coping strategies and improved version of the interpreting practices.Some suggestions are also made to improve the overall capabilities of the interpreter,such as adequate practice on note-taking and listening,accumulation of encyclopedic knowledge,the adjustment of psychological state,etc.Guided by Gile's interpretation model theories,this practice report made a detailed case analysis of the author's practice by utilizing materials including recording,text,notes,etc.The author also made some suggestions for further improvement of his own interpreting ability,and for the purpose of offering reference for the study and practice of other student interpreters as well.
