China, with five-thousand-year history and culture, has increasingly attracted foreign tourists. Only with the help of interpreters, can they have a successful and amusing journey in China. Such relationship makes people pay more and more attention to guide interpreting. Guide interpreters play an extremely important role in helping foreign tourists understand and enjoy local culture and customs. This paper aims at analyzing guide interpreters’effort coordination under the theory of Gile’s Effort Model in the three phases of interpreting:listening and analyzing, memorizing and expressing, using the corpus of the author’s guide interpreting practice in Putian Matsu Temple. The research shows that the interpreter should pay attention to acquiring main information and logical relation in the listening & analyzing phases and remember the information which would be easily forgot in memorizing phase and adopt a simple and interesting translation in the expressing phase. The author focuses on the analysis of the interpreting experience in the three phases: listening and analyzing, memorizing and expressing according to the corpus of practice. Hence, the author puts forward relevant strategies to improve the quality of guide interpreting:paying attention to accumulating bilingual cultural knowledge and vocabulary, reinforcing the training of interpreting and making a detailed preparation for certain interpreting task. Besides, the author suggests that interpreters could better improve the interpreting by the means of the assistance of electronic equipment, the use of body language and the adoption of simplification and interesting expression. The author hopes to offer some references for the improvement of the quality of guide interpreting by this paper.
