| The main content of this paper is to analyze the use of English as the medium of instruction in the primary Chinese classroom in Hungary based on questionnaires and teaching examples,and to summarize the positive and negative effects of the English as the medium of instruction.The ultimate goal of this papaer is to put forward some applicable strategies in terms of different scenarios.Referring to the questionnaires developed by previous practitioners at the Confucius Institute in Hungary and Spain plus the actual situation of the Eotvos High School in Szeged.The questionnaire was designed from three aspects: students’ basic conditions,feedback on the use of English,and students’ expectations for the use of English.It’s been used to investigate the use of English as a medium of Chinese language in Eotvos High School in Szeged,Hungary.Then,researcher analyzes the use and effect of English as the medium of instruction based on the results of the questionnaire survey and teaching examples,and give some advice for the deficiencies.The research analysis shows that the positive effects of English as the medium of instruction are: close teacher-student relationship,improve classroom efficiency,increase classroom interest,and predict teaching difficulties;negative effects are: not conducive to create a good Chinese learning atmosphere,will cause some English negative transfer,and increase the burden of students.At last,it puts forward suggestions for the use of English in the elementary Chinese class: reducing the difficulty of vocabulary in English as the medium of instruction,guiding students from contrasting Chinese and English to contrasting Chinese and Hungary,fully mobilizing students’ enthusiasm for learning Chinese,establishing a teaching language corpus,and persisting in English as the medium of instruction the principle of consistency. |
