The content of the texts in spoken Chinese textbooks for foreigners is usually based on dialogues. When dialogues are set up,corresponding virtual characters are also set up.In order to make these virtual characters more distinct and vivid, different identity backgrounds were designed for them by textbook editors and writers, including gender, age, occupation, nationality, etc. Therefore, these virtual characters often have different nationalities. And the characters' dialogues content reflect the characteristics of virtual characters, the link between personality traits and nationality, often penetrates a national stereotypes of the spoken language teaching material writers.I have been using the literature research method to read and collate the relevant literature related to the oral teaching materials, the virtual characters and the stereotypes in the teaching materials, and have a comprehensive and objective understanding of the topic. Two sets of spoken language teaching materials were selected and statistics and analysis were first performed on the design of virtual characters in the two sets of spoken language teaching materials. Then, personality traits of the virtual characters in the two sets of spoken language teaching materials were summed up from the contents of dialogues.Next, national stereotype of the virtual characters in the two sets of textbooks was compared and analyzed with the nationality as the main classification standard. Finally, based on the results of comparative analysis, the possible impact of the national stereotype of the virtual characters in spoken Chinese teaching materials on teaching Chinese as a foreign language was discussed.By contrast,we found two sets of textbooks that have stereotypes in the United States,China and South Korea, and there are differences in specific country personality traits. It is likely that these stereotypes may lead to the doubt and disagree of the virtual character of foreign students in the teaching material, and on the other hand, may lead the students to the wrong of their cognition, hinder the interaction and the learning among the students, and negative stereotypes can have a subtle influence on professors, which is not conducive to their fair and fair treatment of international students. In view of that negative effect of the stereotype and the too single phenomenon of the virtual character country in the teaching material,we propose some feasible suggestions on the design of the virtual character and the diversity of the country. The study of Chinese spoken language teaching material is not only beneficial to improve the scientific nature of the spoken language teaching material, also can contribute to the classroom teaching of spoken Chinese. At present, there are a lot of researches on oral Chinese teaching materials, but mainly focus on the text selection, arrangement, language elements and cultural projects, etc.,but the attention to virtual characters is not enough, and virtual characters are indispensable in the textbook. It is necessary to study that stereotype of virtual character in oral material in order to make the virtual character in oral materials more distinctive and typical,to increase the interest of teaching material and to improve the interest of foreign students.
