This study settled on "Chinese Teaching" and adopted a non-experimental quantitative study method to investigate and research the Confucius Institute at Veliko Tarnovo University and investigate the current state of the development of Chinese teaching in the Institute.The purpose of the survey was to collect data from a school of the Confucian Institute,study its development process and its special achievements,explore its shortcomings,and propose constructive development proposals to help the Institute to develop better.The questionnaire survey included 220 Chinese learners from 8 teaching sites of the Confucius Institute at Veliko Tarnovo University,and 15 Chinese teachers from 10 Chinese teaching sites.The interviewees included a Chinese dean and a Confucius Classroom foreign leader.Based on information obtained during the internship,questionnaires and interviews with Chinese language teachers,questionnaires for learners of Chinese language,and interviews with the Chinese dean of the Confucius Institute and the person in charge of Chinese teaching at the Russell Confucius Cl assroom,this article studies the teaching of Chinese at the Confucius Institute at University of Great Eastern Continuity from the perspectives of curriculum setting,teaching material and teaching resources,teacher resources,teaching of Chinese teachers,and the situation of Chinese learners at the Confucius Institute at Veliko Tarnovo University.Besides,a separate case study was conducted on Vasil Levski Middle School in Ruse,which has achieved very great results in the development of Chinese language teaching.The investigation and research found five problems.The Confucius Institute at Veliko Tarnovo University lacks Chinese language teaching resources,Chinese education lacks the support and encouragement of Bulgarian national policy,the Chinese teaching cause lacks clear development goals,and the teaching effect is not satisfactory,and there is friction between the two parties.The survey made recommendations from the perspective of three interactions between China and Bulgaria,between the Confucius Institute and the teaching point,and between teachers and students.
