A Report On The C-e Translation Of New Energy Vehicles In China From The Perspective Of Text Typology Theory

This report is based on the translation of an excerpt of New Energy Vehicles in China.There are16,484 Chinese characters in the source text and the translation was finished within thirty days.Based on the translation process,this thesis aims to present the principles and methods in dealing with the translation of informative texts,esp.industry reports.After plenty of consultation and detailed analysis of the style of the source text,the text was translated with specific strategies and methods under the guidance of text typology theory,and then the conclusion and limitations are summarized.The thesis begins with a brief introduction of the task.It goes on with the features of the source text on three levels: lexical,syntactic and discoursal.The analysis indicates that the translation difficulties of words fall into technical,political and marketing terms.On the syntactic level,long and complex sentences and subordinate structures,non-subject sentences and active voice are faux amis.Cohesion and coherence are the most prominent features in discourse.Coming next is a brief introduction of the translation task and process,including the preparation before translation,specific translation process and evaluation after translation.Next,some cases are analyzed in detail to present how to adopt different translation strategies and methods in translation on lexical,syntactic and discoursal levels.In light of text typology theory,some strategies and specific translation methods are effective in solving the translation problems mentioned above,such as amplification,omission,integration,restructuring and voice conversion,in an attempt to make the translation more cohesive and coherent and conform to the expressive habits of the target language,thus achieving the communicative purpose of the original text as much as possible.Finally,the conclusion is drawn and limitations are presented for further studies.The translation practice testifies the assumption that a technical report can be better translated in light of the text typology theory since it provides solutions to the translating problems of its kind either on the lexical,syntactic or discoursal level.
